Jimmy Carter was a prominent American political figure globally famous as the former US President. He also gained prominence as the president of the United States with the most extended lifespan. We can also say he was the first president of the US to live for one hundred years. Moreover, he was also the first President of America who was born in a hospital. Early Life of Jimmy Carter:
The full name of the former US President was James Earl Carter Jr. Furthermore, he was born in Plains, Georgia, on October 1, 1924. He was the son of James Earl Carter Sr. and Bessie Lillian Gordy. His mother was an American nurse, and his father was an American businessman and politician. He was the oldest child of his parents’ four children. This means that the former president of the United States had three younger siblings, including two sisters and one brother. And, their names were Gloria, Ruth, and Billy Carter. But, it’s said that all his siblings died of pancreatic cancer. And as far as his studies are concerned, from 1937 to 1941, he studied at Plains High School. Moreover, he went to the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1946.
Political Journey of Jimmy Carter:
Mr. Carter was a humanitarian and politician. However, he received huge recognition, serving as the 39th president of the United States. He held the position of President from January 20, 1977, to January 20, 1981. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, he was from Democratic party.
On January 12, 1971, he was also appointed the 76th Governor of Georgia and remained in this position until January 14, 1975. From 1963 to 1967, he was also a member of the Georgia State Senate.
Mr. Carter and his wife were also the founders of the Carter Centre. It’s a non-profit organization founded in 1982 to promote human rights.
In 2002, he received the Nobel Peace Prize. He also wrote numerous books and advocated for human rights globally.
Jimmy Carter’s Family Life:
He was also married. Rosalynn Carter was his wife. She was an American activist, humanitarian, and writer. Furthermore, they tied the knot in Plains Methodist Church on July 7, 1946. The couple had four children: Jack, Donnel, James, and Amy.
Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter had three granddaughters and nine grandsons. Moreover, they had eight great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons. His wife, Rosalynn, who was diagnosed with dementia, died on November 19, 2023.
